In late October and early November 2004, the public arts organization Creative Time organized For New York City: Planes and Projections, an artistic display of banners towed by propeller planes over the Hudson River, featuring the text-based art of Jenny Holzer. Artist Marcellus Hall depicted the event with this color illustration, published in The New Yorker on November 1, 2004. We offer the original.

Ink, watercolor, and colored pencil on 11.5” x 8” Arches 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper. The artist’s signature and other handwritten notes, including the dates of creation and publication of the piece, appear in the lower margin. The reverse side contains a faded signature. There are clean pinholes in the corners of the piece, but it is otherwise in excellent condition.
