What the Hell's Gone Wrong

Gahan Wilson

The decline of a corporation is examined in this original hand-drawn cartoon by Gahan Wilson, featuring Gahan's signature ghoulish, macabre characters seated around a conference room table emptying bottles of liquor.  This piece was published in the New Yorker on January 9, 1995.

Ink and ink wash on off-white medium-weight drawing paper measuring 9" x 12".  The line work is precise and pristine.  Signed by Gahan Wilson in the lower left corner.  The caption, "Do you ever catch yourself wondering what the hell's gone wrong with this corporation?" appears in pencil, presumably in the artist's hand, on a tissue overlay to the piece, but not on the cartoon itself.  A protective cover contains a tear sheet from the magazine, the New Yorker stamp on the lower right, and the date of publication handwritten on the upper right.   The reverse side contains a New Yorker copyright sticker common for pieces published at the time.

Excellent condition.

The value of Gahan's work has gradually increased since his passing in 2019. This cartoon would be a great addition to the collection of anyone who's spent time in a boardroom.  We predict it won't be here long.
