MacCormick Island Academy on Riker’s Island

Original color illustration by Marcellus Hall published in The New Yorker’s double February 19 & 26, 2001 issue alongside a thoughtful feature on the little-known Austin H. MacCormick Island Academy, a rehabilitative high school on Rikers Island for teenage offenders.

Ink, watercolor, and colored pencil on 8.75” x 9.25” Arches 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper. Marcellus’s initials appear in the lower right corner of the piece. The reverse side contains the dates of creation and publication of the piece and Marcellus’s return address. Excellent condition.
