Gabriel Orozco Reimagines Ping-Pong

Original color illustration by Marcellus Hall depicting an art installation by Mexican conceptual artist Gabriel Orozco that reimagined the traditional game of Ping-Pong. In Orozco’s reimagining, the table features four rounded sides and the net is replaced with a water-filled lily pond. Marcellus’s illustration was published in The New Yorker’s January 11, 1999 issue to accompany an announcement of the installation at the Marian Goodman Gallery.

Ink, watercolor, and colored pencil on 15” x 11.5” Bristol board. Marcellus inked an abbreviated signature in the lower right corner of the image. The reverse side contains the dates of creation and publication of the piece (among other notes), and Marcellus’s signature stamp and return address. Some minor rippling from the watercolor paint application. The right edge has some significant creasing which does not interfere with the image. The top right border contains some masking tape residue. Overall, very good condition.
