Irwin Chenoweth
Original color illustration by Marcellus Hall of the actors Count Stovall, Bill Irwin, and Kristin Chenoweth in Scapin, an adaptation of Molière’s classic comedy, which ran at the Off-Broadway Laura Pels Theater in early 1997. The New Yorker published two-thirds of this piece—cropping out Count Stovall’s likeness—on January 27, 1999, to accompany its review of the play.
Ink and watercolor on 15.5” x 12.5” heavy cold-pressed watercolor paper. The artist’s initials appear in the lower right corner of the image. The reverse side contains a New York copyright sticker, the dates of creation and publication of the piece, and the artist’s return address. A protective tissue cover sheet is taped to the reverse side which folds over the front of the image. Very fine condition.
