Economy Candy

Original color illustration by Marcellus Hall of the interior of the famed Economy Candy store, a mainstay of New York City’s Lower East Side since 1937. (It still stands today!) This piece was published in The New Yorker’s July 8, 2002 issue.

Ink and watercolor on 11.75” x 5.5” Arches 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper. The foot of the piece contains notes in the artist’s hand referencing the date of creation of the work and the section of The New Yorker in which it would appear (“Shopping Column ‘Economy Candy’”). The reverse side contains Marcellus’s signature stamp and date of publication. Excellent condition.
