Billy Bragg

Original color illustration by Marcellus Hall of British folk performer Billy Bragg. This illustration features prominently in The New Yorker’s September 20, 1999 issue to highlight a scheduled performance by Bragg at New York City’s Town Hall that week.

Created with watercolor and colored pencil on 7.5” x 10” Strathmore 400 series drawing paper. The artist’s initials appear at the lower right corner of the image. The reverse side references the date of creation, the date of publication, and contains Marcellus’s signature stamp and return address. A protective tissue cover sheet is taped to the reverse side which folds over the front of the image. The paper contains minor creases and rippling from the watercolor paint application. Overall, excellent condition.
