Original illustration of bluegrass mandolin legend Bill Monroe by illustration artist Marcellus Hall, published in the New Yorker Magazine on May 16, 1994, to highlight the documentary film “High Lonesome: The Story of Bluegrass Music”.

Created with pen and ink and touches of white gouache on 10.75” x 14” Strathmore 400 series drawing paper. The artist’s signature appears in pencil at the foot of the drawing along with the notation “Bill Monroe (The New Yorker)” and the year “1994.”

The reverse side contains assorted production notes (including a reference to the incorrect publication date, May 23, 1994), a New Yorker copyright sticker, and a return address stamp for the artist. Minor creases throughout. A protective tissue cover sheet is taped to the reverse side which folds over the front of the image. Overall, very good condition.
