Richard Decker

Richard Decker (1907-1988) worked as a staff cartoonist for the magazine for nearly 40 years (1931-1969), in that time publishing 4 covers and more than 900 cartoons.  He is regarded by many as one of the under-recognized New Yorker masters; one author described him as “a virtuoso of the panoramic full-page gag.”  Decker also created illustrations for Look and the Saturday Evening Post, and advertisement cartoons for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin which ran for 28 years -- one of the longest running ad campaigns of all time.
